2018 Governor’s Capitol Art Exhibition Call for Entries

Attention Wyoming artists! The call for entries for Governor's Capitol Art Exhibition is now available on the Wyoming State Museum website:

The entry postmark deadline is November 3.

Now in its 18th year, this juried exhibition will be on display March 5 through June 5, at the Wyoming State Museum at 2301 Central Avenue in Cheyenne. This year’s juror is an art historian and Professor of Museology Christopher Whitehead of Newcastle, UK.

Established in 2000 under an initiative by Governor Jim Geringer, and organized under the auspices of the Wyoming State Museum and the Wyoming Arts Council, the Governor’s Capitol Art Exhibition celebrates the work of Wyoming artists.

The State’s five elected officials and representatives from other state agencies participating in the program select purchase award winners. Works receiving purchase awards join the Wyoming State Museum's prestigious capitol art collection. All other artwork in the exhibition is available for sale to the general public.

This year’s juror, Christopher Whitehead, originally trained as an art historian, he went on to work in several art museums, including the Victoria and Albert Museum and Crafts Council in London.

He has also worked in museums in Italy where he completed his PhD in Art History and Theory in 1999. Since then, he has published extensively on museology and the theory and interpretation of art, including his 2012 monograph Interpreting Art in Museums and Galleries (Routledge).

The Wyoming State Museum uses proceeds from these sales to add art to its permanent collection.

For more information, please call (307)777-7022.

The Wyoming State Museum is located in the Barrett Building, 2301 Central Avenue in Cheyenne. The State Museum is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

All Wyoming visual artists working and living in the state are invited to enter.
