Evan Green, Wyoming State Museum volunteer and host of the Museum’s Firearms Friday series, will present a history of firearms in Wyoming, featuring selections from the Museum’s collection.

The presentation will be on Thursday, July 25, with a repeat presentation on Friday, July 26. Both presentations will take place at 1 p.m. in the multi-purpose room of the Wyoming State Museum.

During the presentations, Green will explore the change in technology with firearms, from flintlocks to percussion cap, and how that change played a significant role in the west. Green will also share some of the stories he’s learned as part of his research on the Museum’s firearms collection.

Some of the firearms of note include: a .45 caliber Whitney cartridge rolling block owned by Thomas Sturgis, founding member of the Wyoming Stock Growers Association and instrumental in starting the Cheyenne Club; a Model 1876 Winchester.50 caliber Express used by Webb Hayes, son of U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes; a Colt Single Action Army revolver.32 caliber owned by Earl Hayner who participated in the manhunt for Earl Durand in 1939; and a Model 1873 Colt Single Action Army revolver owned by Al Smith, who was involved in the 1897 gunfight at the Hole in the Wall.

Join Green and the Wyoming State Museum to see and learn more about the history of these firearms and their role in Wyoming history.

The Wyoming State Museum is located at 2301 Central Avenue in Cheyenne. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Admission to the Museum and its programs is free.
